UDFA Edge Mason Reiger Candidate for Miami Dolphins 53-Man Roster

Over the last several years, numerous Miami Dolphins UDFAs have made impacts and made the initial 53-man roster in South Florida. Adding to the 13 drafted players from April, there are multiple unselected rookies who could earn a spot on the 2026 team. With plenty of thin position groups and a youthful approach in building this roster, it would come to no shock to see a few UDFAs crack the initial 53-man roster.

One to track, Wisconsin’s Mason Reiger was a projected Day 3 draft pick, yet a 2024 knee injury could be the main reason that deterred the opportunity for his name to be called back in April. He did start all 12 games for Wisconsin in 2025.

Reiger transferred to Wisconsin after three seasons of action at Louisville. While at Louisville, Reiger recorded eight sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss. His one season with the Badgers saw him register five sacks along with six tackles for loss and a pass defensed in 2025.

In terms of measurables, at 6-4, he reminds many of a former Wisconsin and Miami standout in Andrew Van Ginkel, who was a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2019. Reiger’s 9.53 Relative Athletic Score was a bit better than Van Ginkel’s 9.26. Reiger’s vertical leap measured at 40 inches, while Van Ginkel’s was 38 inches. Van Ginkel clocked a faster 40-yard dash time with a 4.50 and Reiger ran a 4.78. In terms of arm length, Reiger’s is a tad longer at 32.6, opposed to Van Ginkel’s 32.5.

Reiger does have very good speed for the position and has a motor similar to Van Ginkel’s as well. The arm length is in the upper echelon of the 2026 edge class and has a good bag of moves in his relentless pursuit of the quarterback and anyone carrying the ball. Back at the NFL combine, Reiger was actually ranked third at the position in Athleticism Score at 82.

Perhaps the area with the least depth, Miami will be looking for edge players to step up. Edge players who could be safe to make the initial roster are veteran free agents Josh Uche, David Ojabo and although quiet so far in camp, 2026 seventh-round pick Max Llewellyn. Reiger could be a major sleeper to make this roster and will have to gain a bit more mass, but his intangibles and athletic ability could give him a leg up on veteran free agents who are battling for a roster spot. He has a chance during preseason games to make his mark and his name has been mentioned a few times so far during camp from reporters on site.

Miami did sign former 2019 4th overall pick Clelin Ferrell prior to training camp to add depth to the room. Other than Ferrell, Reiger’s camp competition will be multiple veterans who were signed to one-year deals who are on the roster bubble. Namely, Robert Beal, Jr. and Seth Coleman. Another 2026 UDFA, Rodney McGraw will also battle, and veteran edge and special team’s player Cameron Goode has been playing well so far in camp.
